BIOTEX is part of a significant number of related EU funded projects developing next generation
wearable e-textile based systems integrating sensors, actuators, communications and power management.
A cluster of EC co-financed projects on Smart Fabrics and Interactive Textiles (SFIT) is described at SFIT Cluster.
MyHeart is
an IST Integrated Project whose goal is to gain knowledge on a citizen´s actual health status by
continuous monitoring of vital signs. It integrates system solutions into functional clothes
with integrated textile sensors. The combination of functional clothes and integrated electronics
capable of processing them on-body can be defined as intelligent biomedical clothing. The processing
consists of making diagnoses, detecting trends and reacting to them.
MyHeart comprises feedback devices, able to interact with the user as well as with professional services.
This system is suitable for supporting citizens to fight major CVD risk
factors and helps to avoid heart attack, other acute events by personalized guidelines and giving
feedback. It provides the necessary motivation to adopt new life styles.
PROeTEX is an IST Integrated
Project which focuses on textile-based MicroNano technologies within a communicating
framework. The project is developing textile and fibre based integrated smart
wearables for emergency disaster intervention personnel with a goal of improving
their safety, coordination and efficiency. An additional system for injured civilians
aims at optimizing their survival management. This focused application area
will drive a wide range of key technology developments to create micronano-engineered
smart textiles - integrated systems (fabrics, wearable garments) using specifically
textile-based micro-nano technologies. These developments will feed through
to a wide range of other markets from extreme sports, through healthcare to
transportation maintenance and building workers.
STELLA is
an IST Integrated Project addresses consumers increasing wish to manage their own health and feel good by
providing new stretchable substrates with stretchable conductor patterns,
assembly technology on stretchable substrates, based on lead-free reflow soldering, and integration methods
for electronics in stretchable products.
The objective of this project is the development of stretchable electronics for large area application
for use in health care, wellness and functional clothes, and for integrated electronics in stretchable
parts and products. Stretchable electronics includes the integration of electronic components, energy
supply, sensors, actuators or display and switches on a stretchable substrate with stretchable conductors.
Wealthy is an IST project in which smart materials in fiber
and yarn form endowed with a wide range of electrophysical properties (conducting, piezoresistive, etc.)
are being integrated and used as basic elements to implement a wearable system for collecting physiological
data. Wealthy system integrates computing techniques, smart sensors, a portable device
and telecommunication, together with local intelligence and a decision support system. The proposed system
assists patients during rehabilitation or subjects working in extreme stressful environmental conditions,
by ensuring continuous intelligent monitoring.
